Bly writes: "We all recognise certain holy moments, when outer and inner worlds cross, when vertical and horizontal time intersect. The moment in the original "Iron John" occurred when the King's men wounded the rider. Even though he remained on his horse, his helmet fell off, and golden hair tumbled down. In that moment, his true identity can be revealed, and soon after, the true identity of the Wild man."

The golden hair tumbling down is the sign of the end of the journey of the young man into masculinity and the process of becoming a man. This moment to me is beautiful. Many contemporary men will unfortunately never experience this stage in their own development. They remain bound to societal rules and live their lives according to the 'Status Quo'.

A free man (Wild Man) lives according to his own rules and has no master. He is the owner of his own time and gives his energy willingly and freely to only deserving parties. He exercises his own choice and is never bound to any dogma, meta-narrative and/or mindset. The free man loves time by himself and his own company; he can live in nature in complete solitude for weeks.
