The Community inside the Psyche
According to Robert Bly "the Wild Man is part of a community in a man's psyche, and it would be just as foolish to concentrate on him exclusively as to concentrate on the Warrior exclusively. Just as the man in our story exists as a companion to feminine energy, sometimes following its lead, sometimes not, so the Wild Man lives in complicated interchanges with the other interior beings. A whole community of beings is what is called a grown man."
Before I investigate this "community of beings" inside every grown man, I want to visually explore the roll of the fathers in the upbringing of their sons. I personally believe that the "absent father syndrome"; and sons forced by their fathers to "become clones" of themselves is a very serious issue in our understanding of masculinity.
Read more about the Absent Father:
My first work investigating these issues is entitled "Raised By His Hand" The work was created with pewterized found objects. I wish not to enter into a literal description of the work. I intend to create a whole series of works for Indigo Boy investigating the above.
