TRAVELS JUNE 2007 >> |
PARIS, SPAIN, MOROCCO
The City of the Red Clown
"and then on a blood-red day
you invite me for coffee"
It is of the utmost importance for any artist to travel extensively in order to gain new inspiration and "recharge your batteries". I have always, on all my travels to almost all the corners of the world discovered sparks and magic for my work. On this sojourn to Paris, Spain and Morocco, the one thing that immediately grabbed me by the balls was the splashes of intense colour everywhere, especially in the ancient city of Marrakech. My "Men of Colour" series was born, and endless other incredible images presented themselves to me like cheap whores in a sleezy pub. I feel like a sultan or a king who can harvest from his harem any colour and make love to the deepest indigos, passionate reds and oranges, craziest blues, freshest yellows, and not to forget the gayest pinks and purples. Indigo Boy changed into a chameleon overnight and I find myself to be a totally different colour every morning, as I stared, in wonderment, at my joyful reflection in the maddest mirror.
"one brave black burkha
enters the tearoom silently"
