Christiaan Diedericks • Curriculum Vitae >> portrait

Concise Biography, May 2009

I humbly believe that I have matured as a contemporary artist over the last seventeen years. Since my graduation in 1992 I have successfully mounted 30 solo exhibitions, more than 40 international exhibitions and 120 local group exhibitions. My work is represented in 9 international and 25 local art collections. I am about to launch my new show entitled Cold Sweat at Focus Contemporary | Fine Young Art in Cape Town.

I have received numerous awards and scholarships: the coveted Kanna award at the KKNK (2006) and the Ampersand Fellowship to NYC in 2006, to specifically highlight two. In 1994 I became a lifelong member of the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, France, where I have lived and worked on six different occasions between 1994 and 2005.

I am currently also embarking on preparations for my doctoral studies (DPhil) commencing at the University of Pretoria in 2010. I am currently researching Dystopia as a field of personal interest to enable me to clearly define my specific area of focus for this study.

CV, updated September 18, 2009

We have always come to ourselves as a rich raw material for creation.  The idiosyncratic, everyday person is a subject, with no act or feeling too intimate, too trivial to be shaped into biography; or autobiography.  Chris Diedericks takes the Self in all its vagrancy and after reworking it, illustrates it anew – a saturated wilderness of mystery and beauty, epic memories, bitter struggles and exhilaration.  From this vantage point are vistas never seen or revealed before.
